Happy Diamond Jubilee - long live the Queen!
In Britain we are enjoying a super long weekend with amazing Jubilee celebrations to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II. I love the atmosphere, the cheers and the two extra days off work, too! lol ;). Last night we went to see a big bonfire lit up by the Folly, just outside our house, as part of the 1000s of beacons lit up across the world. It was absolutely amazing!
I have also actively joined the celebrations by entering the Queen's Diamond Jubilee Faringdon Craft Competition ;). Here's my Jubilee project which I made just the night before the deadline for submission...;).
It's a coasters box set I recently found in a charity shop. It's incredible what fabulous items you can find in charity/second hand shops. Just keep your eyes wide open and look for 'potential' rather than the 'original' look. I altered the item with gesso, paints and printed napkins (you can view my 'napkin art' tutorial here) - it's got lots of yummy texture. Each coaster shows a picture of the Queen at different stages in her life, from the day she was born, her Wedding Day, Coronation Day, Golden Jubilee to present days.
The back of the coasters was stamped with Stempelglede grungy corner stamp and a selection of London signature images from the Artistic Outpost stamp sets. I also dated each tile accordingly to the pictures on the front.
The top of the box was embellished with a sweet little crown my DH bought for my project especially and a selection of flowers which I sprayed with the Pearl Glimmer Mist for a gorgeous subtle sparkle.
And without boasting too much....;-))))...
Here, the Mayor of Faringdon and the Queen herself are presenting me with the above Certificate... (yep, that's right! Despite her busy schedule she did find a moment to visit Faringdon for the Craft Competition awards! lol).
And here, the Queen and the sponsor of the Competition are presenting me with the flowers and my winning prize - thank you so much Your Majesty! ;))).
I have truly enjoyed all the celebrations and I am very proud to live in such a fascinating country. And as one of the competition contestants said (a 6 year old girl) - well done for being the Queen for 60 years! Since I can't really beat that - well, that will be all from me for now!
Thanks so much for popping in and for letting me know you have, in your usual sweet way...;)).
Big hugs

I love the coasters and how exciting not only to win but to meet the Queen - my Mom is the same age and has the same name as the Queen so she & I have been enjoying watching as much of the celebrations as we can see over here in the states ;) apparently I was almost British as Mom meet and dates a British soldier during WWII only she didn't want to leave her parents and 14 siblings!
Enjoy the rest of the celebrations
warm regards
